19 Killed in Gaza Strikes as Israeli Offensive Escalates

Israeli airstrikes overnight have killed at least 19 civilians, including children, across the Gaza Strip, according to Gaza’s civil defence agency. The renewed offensive comes as Israel resumes attacks on Hamas after a two-month ceasefire ended on March 18.

Civil defence spokesperson Mahmud Bassal told AFP that the dead included several children, with dozens more wounded. A strike on a home in Deir el-Balah killed five children and four adults. Separate pre-dawn attacks on Gaza City and Beit Lahia in northern Gaza killed 10 more people.

In addition to civilian casualties, journalists were also targeted. An employee of a media outlet linked to Islamic Jihad, Ahmed Mansur, was killed in a strike on a journalist tent in Khan Yunis. The same attack also killed local journalist Hilmi al-Faqaawi and injured nine others.

Since the resumption of Israeli operations, at least 1,391 Palestinians have been killed, bringing the total death toll in Gaza to 50,752, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. Efforts to reinstate a truce between Israel and Hamas remain unsuccessful.
