Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that there is no security threat surrounding the upcoming Pohela Boishakh celebrations.
Speaking to reporters after a coordination meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday, he said all necessary steps are being taken to ensure a safe and festive environment for the Bengali New Year celebrations across the country.
Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki also attended the briefing.
Jahangir Alam stated that celebrations will take place joyfully in the capital and nationwide, with security measures tailored to the conditions of each area.
Addressing recent incidents of vandalism and looting during Monday’s protests over the situation in Gaza, the adviser called such acts “inappropriate” and confirmed that 49 individuals have been arrested in connection with the unrest.
He emphasized that the government remains alert to prevent any similar incidents in the future.
