Australian Home Minister Tony Burke called Bangladesh Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury by phone on Thursday to inform him that Australia would now process visas for Bangladeshi citizens from its high commission in Dhaka.
The home adviser told the council of advisers later in the day that the decision would be effective immediately, according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing. Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus had made the request to Burke when he visited Bangladesh in October.
Previously, Australia would process visas for Bangladeshi nationals in New Delhi.
