United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres officially inaugurated the new ‘UN House in Bangladesh’ on Saturday at Gulshan in the capital.
Following the inauguration, he visited the new UN Common Premises to view a photo exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of UN-Bangladesh relations and to hoist the official UN flag. The visit was preceded by a meeting with the UN Country Team in Bangladesh.
Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Gwyn Lewis were among those present at the event.
Speaking at the function, Guterres praised the contribution of Bangladeshi peacekeepers to UN peace missions, acknowledging their significant role in maintaining global peace and security.
He also reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to continuing its support for Bangladesh regarding the Rohingya issue.
