Police have arrested a youth in connection with the murder of a child in Kamalganj upazila, Moulvibazar district on Saturday.
The arrested individual has been identified as Dibas Rangot, a resident of Shamser Nagar union under the upazila. He was taken into custody 17 days after the incident.
According to the case statement, the accused and another individual allegedly attempted to assault a 10-year-old girl but failed. Later, the child was found dead with injuries.
Family members reported that the victim, Purnima Reli, went missing on the evening of February 5 while going out to bring their cow. The next day, her body was discovered in a lake near a tea garden.
Following the recovery, the body was sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Shamser Nagar Police Post Inspector Zia Md Mustafizur Bhuiyan confirmed the arrest and stated that the accused had confessed to the crime. Meanwhile, police are continuing efforts to locate and arrest the other suspect involved in the case.
