Public Administration Reform Commission Proposes Ministry Overhaul for Better Governance

In a bold move to streamline governance, the Public Administration Reform Commission has recommended reducing the number of ministries and divisions from 40 to 25. The proposal aims to enhance efficiency, eliminate corruption, and create a more effective public service system.

The commission, led by Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, alongside the Judiciary Reform Commission, headed by Chief Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman, presented their reports to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna on Wednesday.

According to the report, the ministries would be restructured into five key clusters: Statutory Administration, Finance, Industry and Trade, Physical Infrastructure and Communication, Agriculture and Environment, and Human Resources and Social Development.

A major highlight of the proposal is the call for strict anti-corruption measures to combat bribery, favoritism, and nepotism, which undermine service delivery. The report emphasizes that political bias and partisan influence must be eliminated to ensure an efficient, transparent, and impartial public service system.

If implemented, these reforms could mark a significant step toward a more accountable and effective administration.
